Third Party Insurance
Third party insurance simply means the insurance of the party who caused the accident. Most drivers in Texas carry minimum limits coverage, called a "20/40/15" policy. This means that it provides a maximum of $20,000 in bodily injury coverage per person, but only a maximum of $40,000 in total coverage for bodily injuries if more than one person is injured. It also provides a maximum $15,000 total coverage for Property damage.
There are, of course, higher limit policies available and some types of policies, for commercial vehicles for instance, have higher minimum limits and vary under the law. Whatever the policy limits, if they are not enough to compensate you for your serious injuries or death caused by another driver your own insurance may come into play.
